ISNN (International Symposium on Neural Networks) is an established annual conference dedicated to emerging and challenging topics in neural networks. Following the highly successful recent conferences held in Chongqing (2005) and Dalian (2004), the third of this series (ISNN2006) will be held in Chengdu, China during May 29-31, 2006.

ISNN2006 provides a forum to present the latest theoretical advances and practical applications in neural networks. ISNN is a high-quality, dual-oral track conference. In 2005, 483 papers were accepted for presentation from 1425 submissions worldwide. Session topics included: Approximation theory, stability and convergence analysis, computational neuroscience, learning theory, bifurcation and chaos analysis, connectionist cognitive science, feedforward networks, self-organizing networks, fuzzy neural networks, hybrid neural networks, learning algorithms, optimization methods, projection pursuit methods, recurrent neural networks, cellular neural networks, evolving neural networks, associative memories, probabilistic and information-theoretic methods, kernel methods, principal and independent component analysis, time series analysis, image processing and computer vision, pattern recognition, power systems, diagnostics & quality control, financial engineering, biomedical applications, other applications, signal processing & blind source separation, data mining, telecommunications, robotics and control systems, information security, neuroinformatics & bioinformatics, industrial applications, hardware implementation.

Conference scope and technical areas include, but are not limited to: Neural Network Theory, Neural Network Models and Algorithms, Neural Network Applications and Hardware. All submissions will be refereed by experts in the field based on originality, significance, quality and clarity. Accepted papers will be included in the Proceedings of ISNN2006 to be published by Springer in multiple volumes of Lecture Notes in Computer Science which are indexed by SCI-Expanded. For further information of ISNN2006, please visit its web site: http://cilab.uestc.edu.cn/isnn2006/ or http://www.acae.cuhk.edu.hk/~isnn2006

ISNN2006 has teamed up with the International Journal of Neural Systems (IJNS) one of the distinguished journals on neural networks, for publishing a Special Issue on Advances in Neural Networks. All submitted papers regarding any aspects of Neural Networks including:

  • Neural Network Theory
  • Neural Networks Models and Algorithms
  • Neural Network Applications and Hardware

will have opportunities for consideration for this Special Issue. The selection will be carried out during the review process as well as at the conference presentation stage. The Editor-in-Chief of IJNS and the guest editors of the Special Issues will make decisions on submitted papers based referees' comments and recommendations, as well as quality and presentation of the papers, and select around twenty five papers. Authors of selected outstanding papers will be asked to substantially extend and revise their papers with additional original materials for further rounds of peer review under the practice of IJNS. These papers must be extended and updated in a significant and substantive way so that the amount of overlap between conference paper and journal submission is no more than 50% . Contributions from outside of this conference, in the scopes of this special issue, are also encouraged. Prospective authors should submit their manuscripts directly to the guest editors before the deadline with a copy to the Editor-in-Chief. Submitted papers must not be under consideration by any other journal or publication. The final decision will be made based on peer review reports by the guest editors and the Editor-in-Chief jointly.
